Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta after delivery

Placenta encapsulation

Placenta encapsulation involves the process of carefully preparing and encapsulating the placenta into easy-to-consume capsules or tincture. This ancient practice is gaining popularity for many potential benefits.

  • Some of the reported benefits* are:

-Increased release of the hormone oxytocin, which helps the uterus return to normal size and encourages bonding with the infant

-Increase in CRH, a stress-reducing hormone

-A decrease in postpartum depression levels. Some individuals report experiencing improved mood and decreased likelihood of postpartum blues when incorporating placenta capsules into their postpartum routine

-The placenta is rich in iron and other nutrients, potentially helping to replenish your body's energy levels after giving birth

-Consuming placenta capsules has been associated with potential benefits for lactating mothers, including increased milk production

  • If you choose encapsulation, we will prepare your placenta by cleaning it, sometimes through steaming, followed by dehydrating it, then it’s ground into a fine powder and placed into capsules. Your capsules will be delivered to you in a lidded container within 5 days of placenta delivery, along with detailed instructions on safety, storage, and ingestion.

If you choose a tincture, we’ll use a small portion of your placenta in 4oz of 100-proof vodka to make a solution that contains all the benefits of the placenta, is shelf-stable, and can be used for decades. Your tincture comes in a cobalt blue dropper bottle and I will provide detailed instructions about how to strain and use it when it's ready (at least 6 weeks after preparation).
